Primal Quest Announces 2006 Location & Dates

World's Premier Expedition Adventure Competition

To be held in the Mountain States Region of North America

San Jose, Calif. -- Reaffirming a commitment to true expedition-style adventure racing, Primal Quest management announced today that the next edition of the event will be held in the Mountain States Region of the United States June 25th through July 4th, 2006.  The 5 to 10 day competition will encompass approximately 600 km in a region that includes Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, and/or Wyoming.

The 2006 Primal Quest in the Wild American West of the Mountain States gives adventurers an opportunity to step back in time and experience raw, dramatic landscapes unlike anywhere else in the world - from high-altitude passes to rugged terrain stripped bare by the powerful forces of nature.  While the elite teams will battle for the $250,000 cash purse, all participants will experience an unbridled sense of discovery that fully embodies exploration and adventure.

Primal Quest CEO Rich Brazeau said, "The epic scale of the 2006 Primal Quest is unprecedented.  There is no question that the diversity of the land combined with the expeditionary format will challenge even the world's best athletes.  This course is rugged, remote and will be the sensory extravaganza racers have been looking for."

Disciplines scheduled for this non-stop endurance challenge will include trekking, mountaineering, horseback, canyoneering, mountain biking, whitewater swimming, paddling and day and night navigation.  The course, designed by Beast of the East founder Don Mann, will feature significant elevation gain and loss in addition to extreme climatic variances.

Mann said, "We're confident this expedition will be unlike any other in recent years.  Teams will need to be in top physical and mental condition to complete this unforgettable journey.  The payoff of finishing will be rewarding for each and every competitor."

The 2006 event in the Mountain States will be recognizably Primal Quest, with a robust nationwide and international television broadcast, the world's top teams and the sport's largest prize purse.  In true expedition form, the 2006 Primal Quest will be unsupported - which also decreases the racer's environmental footprint and competitor costs.

General race registration begins online at www.ecoprimalquest.com on September 14th, 2005 at 5:00 p.m. Greenwich Meridian Time (GMT).  As in past years, some of the 70 registration entries will be granted in advance through qualifying criteria.  The top 15 finishing teams from 2004 will receive automatic registration entries.  An additional 15 spots will be reserved specifically for international (non-U.S.) teams in order to sustain adventure racing's growing global appeal.
