Flight to Nepal Hospital

April 18, 2016

Yesterday was a bad day. I collapsed several times while on the Khumbu icefield. After examination by the expedition doctor it was determined that I needed to get off the mountain ASAP. This morning a helicopter flew me to Kathmandu and I was seen by a Nepalese doctor (mountain specialist) who diagnosed me with HACE and HAPE. The doctor said if I had stayed up on the mountain or climbed any higher I would not have survived. On Wednesday I will be getting a follow up examination and if I am cleared, I will be heading back to the US. Thank you to everyone who supported my climb.
